Facts About the Play...
"The Black Experience in America" is a pageant that chronicles
the movement of Black Americans from slavery to emancipation
to liberation. It's a dramatic story about a struggle of an entire people. It is a story of heartaches and hard times. But, it's also a story
of faith, and of endurance and survival.
The original version was written in 1977 for presentation in a
Black History observance. It has been performed by numerous
universities, organizations, and churches.
W e begin the story after thousands upon thousands of
Africans have been snatched from their homeland, and subjected
to the brutal "Dark Passage ". Forced to leave behind their families,
their customs, and their friends, they now faced a hostile and demeaning America.
Through music and the words of the Black leaders from one
generation to another, "The Black Experience in America" is about
yearnings that are sometimes unfulfilled but not forgotten.
Watch and listen as these Blacks, though former slaves, mold
America into their home.
