Description

Students conversing on the front steps of James M. Cox Administration Building. The Administration Building was built in 1916 by the Little Rock School district and originally used as U. M. Rose School (Reed, 2002). It later became Little Rock Junior College. The building was purchased by Philander Smith College in 1948 and in 1949 it was dedicated in honor of Rev. James Monroe Cox, the 2nd president of the college. The James M. Cox Administration Building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 (Harris, 1989).
