Description

The Lunch Counter Sit-ins Collection includes news articles, clippings and photographs that chronicle Philander Smith College students’ participation in the civil rights sit-ins that occurred in Little Rock, Arkansas from 1960 to 1964. The collection was donated by Veronica Nesbitt, a PSC Alumnus who was involved in the non-violent protests. The news articles and photographs were clipped from the Arkansas Democrat, the Arkansas Gazette and the Southern Mediator Journal. This collection also includes a term paper written by Beka Miles-Deloney (a former student of Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas) that documents the role that Veronica Nesbitt and other Philander Smith College students played in the lunch counter sit-ins during the 1960’s.
